Covenant Beneath the Evening Shade<\/strong><\/h3>\n

By David Munyere<\/em><\/p>\n

Beneath the acacia\u2019s evening shade,<\/p>\n

Where elders speak and vows are made,<\/p>\n

Joshua called with voice aflame,<\/p>\n

\u201cChoose now the God you shall proclaim.\u201d<\/p>\n

Though drums of idols filled the land,<\/p>\n

He raised his staff with steady hand:<\/p>\n

\u201cAs for my home, through drought or flood,<\/p>\n

We serve the Lord, the Lamb of God.\u201d<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Shepherd walks the dusty plain,<\/p>\n

Through seasons dry and fields of grain.<\/p>\n

Beside cool streams He gives us rest,<\/p>\n

And carries weary hearts oppressed.<\/p>\n

When dark valleys of sorrow near,<\/p>\n

His staff of mercy calms our fear.<\/p>\n

Through thundered nights and burning sun,<\/p>\n

His goodness walks with everyone.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

So leave the charms, the fear, the pride,<\/p>\n

Let Christ alone in hearts abide.<\/p>\n

Though tribes may quarrel, kingdoms fall,<\/p>\n

His peace is greater than them all.<\/p>\n

With songs of hope our voices rise,<\/p>\n

Like dawn across the African skies:<\/p>\n

\u201cOur homes, our church, our lives restored\u2014<\/p>\n

Forever we will serve the Lord.\u201d<\/p>\n

A Season Once in My Life<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Rainy damp windy sleepy<\/p>\n

Annoyed by what you are every year in my younger way<\/p>\n

Spiritless as I hung my head<\/p>\n

But people praise you all the day<\/p>\n

How could I stand such a meaningless fate<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Flowers bloomsome when you come<\/p>\n

Your beautiful face threw me into rainy humdrum damp<\/p>\n

In this southern corner of the Great Bay<\/p>\n

I lost my passion even more as you have been running down<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Am I crazy am I right<\/p>\n

Am I going broken away<\/p>\n

Why I hated you in my gloomy day<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Not until He drew me out of the unknown depressed<\/p>\n

Not until He raised me up from the dust<\/p>\n

You, a rainy damp windy sleepy Spring, once in my life of decay<\/p>\n
