This poem by Christina Ko of the U.S. received runner-up honors in our September writing contest.\u00a0Contest participants were invited to respond to this prompt\u00a0in 400 words or less: “Write a psalm or poem that expresses to God your pain over injustice, racism, violence, poverty or some other challenge in your country and your cry for His intervention.”<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0Twenty-five writers from a dozen nations submitted entries in this English contest.<\/p>\n

“Powerful message; engaging style. The questions invite the reader in,” noted the contest judges. “Very imaginative poem that allows readers to draw deeper meaning from women\u2019s suffering and their responsibility to them.<\/p>\n

Contest judges Lillian Tindyebwa and Betty Kituyi of Uganda founded Uganda Faith Writers Association and Quiet Garden Publishing. Lillian’s\u00a0novel Recipe for Disaster<\/em> is used as reader in lower secondary schools. She is also a university lecturer for English and Literature.\u00a0Betty is a poet with\u00a0two published poetry books; a leading science educator and award-winning mentor of young women in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics).<\/p>\n

cuts on her<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

hands<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

from your<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

bindings.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Who is left now<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

to lift from Samaria\u2019s road,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

to bind up wounds when<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

we have bound up<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

our neighbor\u2019s wrists?<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
