184px) 100vw, 184px\" \/>Nine aspiring authors traveled to Alexandria, Egypt, once-great port city founded by Alexander the Great in 321 B.C. and famed in its day as the seat of all learning.\u00a0 In a place where the Great Library once held 700,000 manuscripts\u2014every known work in existence\u2014they learned the craft of writing at a training \u00a0led by MAI and several Arab Christian publishers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wish I\u2019d attended a workshop like this 10 years ago,\u201d said a man who writes television and movie scripts, plus columns for a newspaper.<\/p>\n<p>Editors from Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon mentored the writers as they crafted short stories, book outlines and personal experience articles.\u00a0 The writers relished one-on-one feedback from an experienced editor.<\/p>\n<p>A seminary student and tour guide trained in ancient Egyptian history is writing a novel for general readers loosely based on the life of female Pharaoh Hatshepsut.<\/p>\n<p>The editor of an online women\u2019s magazine is writing a manuscript to curb violence against Arab women \u201cby empowering men to be the men God intended them to be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A man from Upper Egypt is writing Scripture-based poems that he dramatically recites in churches and on Christian television.<\/p>\n<p>Held a seashell\u2019s throw from the Mediterranean, the workshop seemed far removed from the fighting and uncertainty plaguing countries across the region. \u00a0But those very needs brought the writers to Alexandria.\u00a0 They want to create words of life and hope<br \/>\nfor Arab readers yearning for both.<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-4640\" Alexandria, two questions linger.\u00a0 Will they persevere and finish their articles and books in service to God and their readers?\u00a0 And, will more Arab Christian writers join them to create excellent \u201chomegrown\u201d content in the Middle East?<\/p>\n<p>We pray the answer will be \u201cyes\u201d on both counts.\u00a0 \u201cFor a long time I\u2019ve had an idea for a book to dispel common\u00a0misunderstandings about Christianity in Egypt,\u201d said one participant after the workshop.\u00a0 \u201cNow I\u2019m going to write
