You may choose to create a script if you like.\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0 Thirty writers from17 nations\u00a0submitted entries in this English contest.<\/p>\n

\u201cFull of interesting dialogue that generates true-to-life traits of Judas Iscariot as a genuine character. <\/span><\/strong>The writer effective creates scenes that show rather than tell the events<\/span>,<\/span>\u201d<\/strong> wrote contest judge Lawrence Darmani, an award-winning novelist and\u00a0founding editor of\u00a0Step<\/em>\u00a0magazine and CEO of Step Publishers<\/a> in Accra, Ghana.<\/p>\n

Just Thirty Pieces of Silver<\/strong>

At exactly 7 p.m at the Dinner Plaza, a man dressed in a flashy black and white-striped tuxedo approached me and stretched his right hand toward my direction.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy name is Judas Iscariot.\u201d<\/p>\n

I held his hand and shook before I asked, \u201cAre you really the great Judas Iscariot in the Bible?\u201d<\/p>\n

He nodded, \u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Straightaway I asked him, \u201cWhy did you betray Jesus Christ?\u201d<\/p>\n

He frowned at me at once. \u201cWhy do you want to know?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve always believed it was not for that small money because your father, Simon Iscariot was rich. You were neither poor,\u201d I stressed.<\/p>\n

He glanced at me and chuckled.\u00a0\u201cWell, the ocean, despite its size still collects rain water.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBut Jesus really loved you because in the book of John chapter13, he washed your feet.\u201d I reminded him.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know, but there was nothing I could do,\u201d he said regretfully.<\/p>\n

I looked at him carefully. \u201cWhy are you saying that?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Roman soldiers promised to pay me a hefty amount,\u201d he blurted.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn that case, why did you kiss Jesus as a signal for him to be arrested instead of pointing at him?\u201d<\/p>\n

Suddenly Judas paused and sighed heavily. Then he said in a sad tone,\u00a0\u201cThe kiss was just to hand over Jesus to the soldiers but after hearing that he would be crucified, I became so devastated.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIs that why you attempted to return the money?\u201d I quizzed him.<\/p>\n

Judas nodded remorsefully. So I continued,\u00a0\u201cA lot of Christians feel you never repented but rather showed some remorse.\u201d<\/p>\n

Judas sighed silently. Looking very sad, he uttered,\u00a0\u201cI should have repented and asked for forgiveness but the devil didn\u2019t give me a chance,\u201d he declared.<\/p>\n

\u201cWere you instigated by the devil?\u201d I asked.<\/p>\n

He nodded and said frankly, \u201cThough I followed Jesus, I loved the devil called money more.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHow can you forego the Kingdom of God for just 30 pieces of silver?\u201d I asked disappointedly.<\/p>\n

He remained silent for a while and said regretfully, \u201cI\u2019m sorry. My heart was not with Jesus at that time.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAre you the famous traitor of all times?\u201d I wanted to know.<\/p>\n

Judas screamed, \u201cNo!\u201d<\/p>\n

Later he whispered to me. \u201cHe is a member of your church.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nana Kwame K. Boamah<\/strong> markets Christian literature in Ghana and views his work as a calling, not a vocation. \u201cMy desire is to ensure that at least four out of every six children in this world learn to recite a Bible verse,” he says. Nana dropped out of his mother\u2019s womb on August 28, 1971.<\/i><\/p>\n
