On Monday a few of us took to the red dirt paths with our umbrellas, eager to stroll through the tea fields before dinner. In every direction the rain washed tea plants spread out before us in variegated shades of green. Down in the valley we could see the humble village where the tea pickers lived and where the harvested tea leaves were taken at the end of the day. Workers reach for the pale, new growth and pick just the two leaves that sprout from the fresh bud at the top of the plant.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1247\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1247\" style=\"width: 288px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/maiglobal.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/tea-fields-DSCF5194-small.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1247\" src=\"https:\/\/maiglobal.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/tea-fields-DSCF5194-small.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"288\" height=\"216\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1247\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kenyan tea fields: strolling behind Didier and Ernest. He told us stories about his wife and their wedding, while <a title=\"Didier Millotte blog\" href=\"http:\/\/dimillotteblog.blogspot.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Didier<\/a>, an illustrator from France, demonstrated his juggling skills with three umbrellas. <a title=\"Alice Crider\" href=\"\/zh\/www.alicecrider.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Alice<\/a> and I smiled. And smiled and smiled.
