Covenant Beneath the Evening Shade
By David Munyere
Beneath the acacia’s evening shade,
Where elders speak and vows are made,
Joshua called with voice aflame,
“Choose now the God you shall proclaim.”
Though drums of idols filled the land,
He raised his staff with steady hand:
“As for my home, through drought or flood,
We serve the Lord, the Lamb of God.”
The Shepherd walks the dusty plain,
Through seasons dry and fields of grain.
Beside cool streams He gives us rest,
And carries weary hearts oppressed.
When dark valleys of sorrow near,
His staff of mercy calms our fear.
Through thundered nights and burning sun,
His goodness walks with everyone.
So leave the charms, the fear, the pride,
Let Christ alone in hearts abide.
Though tribes may quarrel, kingdoms fall,
His peace is greater than them all.
With songs of hope our voices rise,
Like dawn across the African skies:
“Our homes, our church, our lives restored—
Forever we will serve the Lord.”
David Munyere is a committed Christian, ordained minister of the gospel, and passionate writer from Kenya.
A Season Once in My Life
By Alice Huang
Rainy damp windy sleepy
Annoyed by what you are every year in my younger way
Spiritless as I hung my head
But people praise you all the day
How could I stand such a meaningless fate
Flowers bloomsome when you come
Your beautiful face threw me into rainy humdrum damp
In this southern corner of the Great Bay
I lost my passion even more as you have been running down
Am I crazy am I right
Am I going broken away
Why I hated you in my gloomy day
Not until He drew me out of the unknown depressed
Not until He raised me up from the dust
You, a rainy damp windy sleepy Spring, once in my life of decay
