We’re delighted to welcome Mia to our team this week! Mia Togonon joins us from the Philippines and will be supporting our team in administration and events. In this story, she shares her faith journey and some of the ways she’s seen God working in her life through books – and other ways.
Why MAI?
Before MAI, I worked as an administrative assistant for the Philippine government for nine years. I later made the decision to step away from my career to become a full-time housewife, focusing on raising my son and taking care of my family.
When I was looking for a job, I came across MAI’s job posting, and it immediately stood out to me. What really caught my attention was that you asked applicants to share our Christian faith and relationship with Jesus in the cover letter.
That’s not something you see often, and it made me excited to apply. I knew I met the qualifications, but more importantly, I was eager to share my faith and how Jesus has changed my life.
I also saw this as an opportunity to grow—not just professionally, but spiritually as well. I believe MAI is the kind of place where I can do meaningful work while strengthening my faith, and that’s something I really value.
Thankfully, MAI also offers a work-from-home opportunity, which allows me to continue my career while still being present for my son. It’s the perfect balance between professional growth and family life, and I’m truly grateful for it.
How did you come to faith in Christ?
During my teenage years, I knew Jesus as our Lord and Savior, but I realized that knowing about Him wasn’t enough—I needed a deeper relationship with Him to truly strengthen my faith.
At the time, I struggled to find a church to attend, but God answered my prayers through a friend who invited me to a church youth event.
That was my first time attending a Christian church, where people worshiped, sang, and danced with so much joy. It was also where I learned how to read the Bible and develop a habit of daily devotion.
That first experience was incredibly emotional yet deeply fulfilling—I remember crying in the presence of the Lord and feeling a sense of peace as I released all my burdens to Him. That moment marked the true beginning of my faith journey with Christ.
What are some of your favorite books, and why?
Three of my favorite books are the Bible, A Gentle Reminder by Sparacino and The Art of Thinking Clearly by Rolf Dobelli.
The Bible serves as a foundation for my values, offering timeless wisdom and guidance that helps me navigate life with faith and purpose.
A Gentle Reminder is all about self-love and growth which always reminds me to be kind to myself and embrace growth.
And lastly, The Art of Thinking Clearly helped me understand how our minds can trick us into making poor decisions, to become more aware, and to make better choices and decisions in both personal and professional situations.
Is there a book you’d love to read, but haven’t been able to find yet?
I would love to explore more motivational and inspirational books. Also, I would like to read more life stories and testimonies of how God has worked in people’s lives and how their lives changed when they started to follow Jesus.
Is there anything else you’d like to share about how you’ve seen God working in your life?
Looking back, I can see God’s hand in so many moments of my life.
One of the biggest lessons He has taught me is to trust His timing. There are times when I feel uncertain or need to make important decisions, and in those moments, I always turn to God first. I ask Him for guidance, seeking wisdom to make choices that not only benefit me but also align with His will.
Trusting in His timing has given me peace, knowing that He always leads me in the right direction. Whether it was providing opportunities, surrounding me with the right people, or strengthening me during difficult seasons, He has always been faithful.
I’ve learned that even when things don’t go as planned, His plans are always better. Through every challenge, He has shaped me, taught me patience, and reminded me that I am never alone.
