Our Online Poetry Group is made up of people from across the globe who share a love of poetry. Their dream this year is to publish an anthology—for now, the group invites you to enjoy their Featured Poetry of the Month by WordPriest DaThug* and Ayoola Adeyemi from Nigeria.
Dog on the Highway
I wandered so far,
Far away from home,
Into the very jaws of death,
In sorrow in despair,
How did I miss my way?
Anybody! Save me!
Frozen on the highway,
With metal beasts hurtling towards me,
The road quaking beneath their weight,
Racing closer, swift and merciless,
Ready to devour my fragile soul.
I’m a ghost trapped in their path,
An intruder in their hurried lives,
I’m but a fractured soul, small and lost,
Caught in the crossfire of fate,
Death, my only solace.
The sounds of their engines fade,
Their lights blur out,
I say goodbye to the world,
I go to a place where pain,
I will feel no more.

The Street of His Glory
The street hums soft beneath the sky,
where streetlights burn like torches high.
Their golden hands stretch through the night,
weaving wonders in their light.
The trees, like elders, bow and sway,
whispering hymns where branches lay.
Their roots hold deep, their voices climb,
singing of One beyond all time.
The cars stand still, silent, bright,
bearing words of holy might:
“The earth is His, the sky, the sea—
the breath in you, the breath in me.”
The hawkers move, their voices rise,
like echoes flung to ancient skies.
Hands stretch out, feet press on,
yet every step is Heaven’s song.
And up above, the stars ignite,
city lights of realms of light.
The winds proclaim, the heavens cry,
“He rides the storm, He rules the sky!”
The night, so vast, yet knows His name,
the roads, though worn, still praise the same.
The waiting cars, the restless street,
all bow beneath His sovereign feet.
Then comes the shift
The light turns green,
and motion stirs like worlds unseen.
For He who speaks makes all things flow,
“Be still,” He breathes, and all things know.
